English Violas

The following are a group of hybrid violas that we call English Violas. Their parentage is that of pansies and viola species from the mountains of Europe. Unlike the annual violas used in bedding, the Englishviolas have been bred to be more perennial. Some are old varieties and others are more recent, includingselections by one of England's leading hybridizers of violas, Richard Cawthorne. They all have lovely flowers, some are exquisitely fragrant, and are wonderful picked for small bouquets. Violas will grow well in full sun to partial shade. Hardy to zone 4.

Desmonda A violetta (violettas are violas with slightly smaller flowers)with a long succession of small, scented flowers of blue shaded with cream. A vigorous grower making a mound of flowers and foliage to 10" high and wide.

Magic Early in the season the large flowers are light purple. As the weather warms they become near white with with prominent veining. For us it is a strong grower that tolerates our hot summers.

Rebecca The very fragrant flowers on strong, upright stems are cream colored splashed with light purple on the border. One of the best violas.
