Kniphofias
Stately plants with long, grassy leaves and tall spikes closely set with tubular flowers. Not only are hummingbirds attracted to the flowers but also orioles can be seen clinging to the flowering stalks. Plant in fertile, well drained soil. They are reasonably drought tolerant. Alcazar Stiff flowering stems carry a tightly packed spire of red-orange flowers. Strong growth to 5', flowering in midsummer. Apricot In mid June the soft, buff-yellow flowers open atop the 3'-5' stems. The flowers are a warm, subtle color. Bee's Sunset Appropriately named with its dense heads of glowing, yellow-orange flowers. Not gaudy or garish but a very pleasing blend. Blooms for us in late May. Candlelight Delicate heads on slender stems of light yellow flowers. Blooms in June on 3'-4' stems Cobra Tall, strong growing plants with 5'-6' stems topped with bicolor heads of cream and buff-orange. Reliable and showy. Glow Early flowering coral-red spikes on 2'-3' stems. Little Maid An always popular kniphofia for the smaller garden. It has fine, grassy foliage and numerous slender spikes of creamy-yellow flowers in late summer. A bit temperamental, it is not the easiest plant to get established. Don't over water in heavy soils. Primrose Beauty Full 4' stems of soft primrose-yellow flowers in early summer. Toffee Nosed A warm color, the cone of unopened buds is burnt apricot while the lower half of opened flowers are cream. A very pleasing combination which mixes well with many plants. The longest flowering the kniphofias which we grow. Yellow Hammer The first to flower in late May with stocky, dense heads of bright yellow flowers. A strong growing plant to 4' tall. ............................Each of the Above $7.50 each
Ice Queen Large, slow growing plants produce strong stems with large, white flower spikes opening from greenish buds. Very different and striking in the garden. Grows 5'-6' tall. rooperi A very striking kniphofia with its large, globose heads or orange-red flowers. Strawberries and Cream The creamy flowers open on slender stems from crushed strawberry buds. Grows 2'-3' tall and blooms in July-August. Similar to 'Little Maid' in it's tendency to be slightly temperamental. ............................Each of the Above 3 $9.50 each
